Concerning access to land, all land is owned by the state in Uzbekistan. Individuals can be granted leases to manage land and benefit from the produce of that land.[66] Current legislation has officially removed all legal obstacles that previously prevented Uzbekistani women from leasing land, and women have the same rights as men to obtain long-term leases on land, which come with inheritance and mortgage rights.[67]

According to the Coalition of Uzbek Women’s Rights NGOs, media outlets tend to reinforce existing stereotypes regarding gender roles, portraying ‘good women’ as obedient and submissive, rather than providing space to challenge them.[80]
